Honestly, I don’t see any major disadvantages in the university itself. But since Nagaoka isn’t a big city like Tokyo, it might feel a bit quiet for some people. Personally, I don’t mind because it helps me concentrate on my studies

Don’t just attend classes, chase after research opportunities, ask questions, and make the most of the facilities. Some days will be tough, but that is when you are learning the most.

Q1 Why do you want to come to Japan?

I wanted to come to Japan because of its strong reputation in advanced technology, research and innovation. As a researcher working related to engineering and biomaterials, I was particularly interested in experiencing Japan’s research environment, which combines traditional discipline with cutting-edge science. This opportunity also gave me a chance to experience Japanese culture and expand my personal and academic perspectives.

 

Q2 Why did you decide to enter Nagaoka University of Technology?

I felt this opportunity is an excellent chance to broaden my research experience. Nagaoka University of Technology has its strong focus on practical, hands-on research experience. The university offers a great environment for international students like me with well-equipped labs, experienced professors and collaborative research culture which I think is great opportunity for research students to improve their knowledge and experience. This opportunity to work on real-world research projects and explore new scientific ideas was very appealing to me. I also felt NUT would provide the right balance of academic challenge and cultural exposure, which is important for my growth as a researcher. Overall, I saw this opportunity at NUT as a valuable step towards developing both my technical skills and global research perspective.

My living expenses during the internship were fully supported by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST – Sakura Science Program). As this is a fully funded program, the financial support I received covers accommodation, food and other daily needs. This allows me to focus entirely on my research and cultural experience in Japan without worrying about financial stress.

One of the key merits of enrolling in Nagaoka University of Technology is its strong focus on practical, research-oriented education. The University offers access to advanced facilities, well-structured laboratories and experienced professors who support and guide research in both fundamental and applied areas. The hands-on research environment has helped me explore a completely new material system, expanding my knowledge beyond my previous research work. NUT also has a supportive international environment. The staff and faculty are very welcoming and they provide assistance that helps international students adjust both academic and daily life in Japan. Being located in a peaceful and scenic city, Nagaoka also provides a calm and focused environment for research.

 

Q5 What are the disadvantage of entering Nagaoka University of Technology?

While Nagaoka University of Technology offers a great research environment and academic support, one of the main disadvantages is its 利用できない関数が無効化されました In Nagaoka one may feel a bit isolated compared to larger urban areas. This can limit some cultural, entertainment and networking opportunities outside the campus. Also, the language barrier can sometimes be a challenge in day-to-day life. However, with time and support from the university’s international office, these challenges become manageable.

Dear Juniors, if you ever get an opportunity to study or do research abroad - especially in a country like Japan - I strongly encourage you to take it. My time at NUT has been both academically enriching and personally transformative, despite of some minor discomfort in food and language which is manageable. Working in a research-focused environment, exploring a new culture and adapting to a different lifestyle have helped me grow in many ways. Be curious, stay humble and take every opportunity to learn. Q1 Why do you want to come to Japan

Japan is one of the best places for higher studies. There is intense focus on research and the high quality of education provided here is a very good learning experience. Studying abroad was always a dream and Japan provides a good opportunity for international students having such dreams.
 

Q2 Why did you decide to enter Nagaoka University of Technology

I decided to enter NUT because the labs of mechanical engineering here were working in areas of material testing, their fatigue behaviours and improvement methods. I thought the learning experience here would help me a lot for my working in Indian railways.

Q3 How should I pay for living expenses
Receiving MEXT scholarship for two years which is sufficient for living expenses here.

Q4 What are the merits of enrolling in Nagaoka University of Technology
Nagaoka is a very beautiful and peaceful place to live in. The university provides excellent academic and research environment. Dormitory accommodation facility is excellent. Canteen and shopping centres are very good. There is very good support for international students. Very good in campus Japanese language classes available for students as well as family members.

Q5 What are the disadvantages of entering Nagaoka University of Technology 
Public transport is expensive. Buses are available, but at intervals of about an hour. So, personal vehicles are preferable for long time stays. In winters, because of heavy snow, movements within the city may be sometimes very inconvenient.

Very good place for higher studies. Must try to get a Japanese driving licence at the earliest for a comfortable stay here.

I have knowledge of Japan's locations and culture thanks to history textbooks and Hayao Miyazaki's anime films. The modesty of the Japanese people and their dedication to their nations' progress were consistently portrayed in news reports and articles that left Japan along with their technologies. I've always wanted to travel to Japan to see their vibrant culture and landscape.

 

Q2 Why did you decide to enter Nagaoka University of Technology?

My research supervisor at IIT Palakkad, India, recommended joining Nagaoka University of Technology to take part in research work in the field of additive manufacturing. Otsuka Lab has all the facilities needed for research work in the metal additive manufacturing field.

 

Q3 How should I pay for living expenses?

The JASSO scholarship granted by the Japanese government gives support for exchange study for their studies and living.  This scholarship provides a decent stipend for living and studying at Nagaoka University of Technology.
 

Q4 What are the merit of enrolling in Nagaoka University of Technology?

Nagaoka University of Technology has good research facilities and a healthy research environment. The well-organised research activities in the labs at Nagaoka University of Technology greatly inspired me as a research scholar. The research projects the Otsukalab carried out were industry-orientated and had a good impact on the field of research.

 

Q5 What are the disadvantage of entering Nagaoka University of Technology?

From November to February, the weather is extremely cold and snowy. You have to slow down during these months in order to increase your energy and mobility.  Nevertheless, winter in Nagaoka is still a good experience.

Q1 Why do you want to come to Japan?
I think that Japanese working style is comfortable with me. Moreover, the high-tech infrastructure of Japan benefit for science studying that what I want to do.

Q2 Why did you decide to enter Nagaoka University of Technology?
Because Otsuka lab is suitable for my PhD study. My work focuses to nanoscale material which demands integration of mechanical and chemical aspects. Here is where I can approach my research though these two viewpoints based on both experiment and simulation.

Q3 How should I pay for living expenses?
I received scholarship SGD professional course for 2 years. Also, the income from research assistant and teaching assistant help me a lot.

Q4 What are the merits of enrolling in Nagaoka University of Technology?
Generally, living condition in Nagaoka is great. Clean air and lovely natural landscape are good for student’s physical and mental health. Moreover, Nagaoka city is one of the best supportive place for international student where I have live. Thanks for support from university as well as city, my living is really comfortable.

There is a quite inconvenient about traffic in here. During winter, travelling becomes a challenge due to heavy snowing.

I want to study abroad to broaden my viewpoint and changing the mindset. Japan has been known for the great working culture. It is a good environment to build up a good working habit and develop oneself.

The university is very strong in practical application of science (mechanical, electrical, information…). As I have a strong interest in mechanical engineering, I had chosen Otsuka laboratory in NUT as the lab is very strong in mechanical research field.

Receiving salary from doing research in project, parttime job, scholarship. Etc. There are many ways that you can assure your normal living expense.

The university works closely with companies which help in job finding. If you want to study about topic that have high impact and practicality a science base, NUT is a good choice.

Q5 What are the disadvantages of entering Nagaoka University of Technology?
The heavy snow fall is one of the biggest downsides of this city. It is quite inconvenient to travel in winter. On the other hand, if you are a snow enjoyer and interest in skiing, snowboarding, you will love this place as it is the 2nd most-snowing area in Japan.

Q1 Why do you want to come to Japan?
I used to stay in Japan when I was 7 years old. In that time, there were very good memory of living in Japan. Then I decided that if I have a chance, I will come back to Japan again.

Q2 Why did you decide to enter Nagaoka University of Technology?
I am interested to research for developing of biomedical application material. I conducted a research about designing of bone implant from porous structure of Ti6Al4V from Bachelor program in Thailand. For master program, I want to learn about fatigue failure mechanism to develop bone implant for long period usage. Moreover, there are good facilities for experiments and research.

Q3 How should I pay for living expenses?
There are many scholarship applications for international student. If you have Japanese language skill and prepare good application documents, the opportunity for scholarship will be higher. Moreover, you can do some TA/RA works or part time job to earn the salary.

Q4 What are the merits of enrolling in Nagaoka University of Technology?
I got the opportunities to use laboratory equipment that I have never used before. Moreover, I have met many Japanese and international students and exchanged for each country culture.

Q5 What are the disadvantages of entering Nagaoka University of Technology?
The university is a little bit far from city. The bus schedule is stop at university around 1 time in hour. Some places in the city can be assessed only by car. In winter season, the transportation sometimes is difficult because of heavy snow fall.
